A storm in Revelstoke that began earlier this afternoon has taken down a number of trees and cut power to more than 3,000 residents and businesses.
Trees were down all across town. One blocked half of Victoria Road until it was removed, and a tree came down on Edward Street in Southside. There are also multiple reports of trees on power lines, including at King Street and Third Street and at the Revelstoke Courthouse.
Since power lines are down, use appropriate caution.
Power is out in some parts of town, and the outages are spread out, with some small, localized outages.
Traffic signals on the highway are also currently out.
The windstorm also caused power outages in Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, Golden and Vernon. Crews are working to restore power.
We’ve heard many more reports of trees damaged, including the Greenbelt and in Centennial Park.
In an email, Revelstoke RCMP said there were no injuries reported as a result of the storm, and they praised the coordinated response from the city, first responders and wildfire fighters who helped remove trees.
