Avalanche Canada is hosting a free avalanche awareness primer designed for newcomers to the Revelstoke backcountry and slackcountry.
This evening event at the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre on Nov. 23 will feature big-name guides, professional skiers and avalanche professionals.
Their goal is to get you on the path to safe skiing and riding in the big mountain snow environment around Revelstoke.
Avalanche Canada Education and Outreach Coordinator Nancy Geismar said the event targets newcomers to the Revelstoke backcountry. “Many young, transient workers come to experience the magnificent snow of western Canada, and this event is meant as a primer to open their eyes and give them some knowledge to be safe.”
Speakers include CAPOW! guide Marty Schaffer, Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association handler Al Roberts, Zuzana Driediger from Parks Canada, Revelstoke ski mountaineer Greg Hill, professional skier Leah Evans and Grant Hegelson from Avalanche Canada.
