The Revelstoke RCMP have provided more info on a series of crashes last night that shut the Trans-Canada Highway down for several hours west of Revelstoke.
The first happened about 40 kilometres west of Revelstoke when an eastbound tractor-trailer lost control and struck a westbound tractor trailer at around 7 p.m.
They were both badly damaged and couldn’t be driven out.
Nobody was hurt, and RCMP say both vehicles were travelling slowly.
That first incident led to others. A passenger bus was slowing to a stop as a result when it struck a different tractor-trailer. There were no injuries, but the bus had to be towed and another had to be brought in to pick up the passengers.
There were two more other incidents related to the first crash, RCMP say.
The road closure was eventually lifted half an hour after midnight.
Also on local highways, Highway 23 North towards Mica Dam is shut due to a rock slide. At least one vehicle was damaged as a result of that slide, although details are not immediately available.
There were a total of seven vehicle incidents over the weekend reported to the RCMP.
“The driving public is reminded to utilize proper winter tires and to drive to the conditions,” said Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky in a media release.
