A community group working towards a new splash park in Farwell Park will face a key council decision on May 26, when Revelstoke City Council makes a decision whether to proceed with the concept in general.
The parent group, Revy Splash Park, presented their plan to the city’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee last month and councillors will now decide whether to throw council support behind the concept.
A staff report notes the splash park isn’t on current planning documents, and there is no staff time or funding budgeted for the project. The city Parks department is asking council if they support the idea and want staff to continue working on the concept. That could include costs for things like assessing infrastructure needed for the park, like drainage.
The group has contracted Kelowna based Waterplay Solutions to create the kids park design within the existing wading pool area and it has 13 features including a water cannon.
The previous wading pool was closed in June 2013 when it failed to meet provincial pool regulations.
The group has a maintenance plan but feedback from the session was that they need more definition to the project scope and various size options to potential reduce costs.
A preliminary report estimates costs to be between $200,000–$250,000, but that doesn’t include infrastructure costs.
