At 1:40 p.m., Revelstoke Search & Rescue spokesperson Giles Shearing emerged from the search organization offices to tell a group of waiting searchers that the missing woman had been located “safe and sound.”
The search is now wrapping up.

Revelstoke Search & Rescue is coordinating a large search for a woman reported missing on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 11.
Resident Julie Martel was reported missing by her husband in social media posts published to Facebook groups on Sunday evening.
Revelstoke Search & Rescue manager Giles Shearing said that about 100 volunteers were involved in the search, and that SAR members were assisting with groups of individuals.
“We are on an active search for Julie,” Shearing said. “We currently have about 100 searchers.”
Giles said the search parties are being coordinated in part using a GPS-enabled app that allows them to track and coordinate search parties’ location in real time.

“We understand that she could be hiding from the public, so it does make for a challenging search so we’ve got a lot of people out there,” Shearing said.
The search commenced at around 9 a.m., Shearing said. “We’re using all the people who are coming down.”
So far, a helicopter and a dog team has also been deployed for the search.
Martel and her husband Claude Awad were the subject of a Sept. 14 story in the Revelstoke Review on the topic of postpartum depression. In the story, Awad talks about his partner Martel’s struggle with postpartum depression.
The Revelstoke RCMP has not issued a statement or media release and the detachment is closed due to the Thanksgiving holiday. When contacted, a Kelowna-based operator said she’d relay our request for information.
