The Mountaineer Volunteer is a weekly, pay-it-forward feature in the Revelstoke Mountaineer that highlights the great work volunteers do to make Revelstoke a true community. Each week, we feature a new volunteer who then nominates the volunteer to be featured the next week.
Mountaineer Volunteer: Taylor Pearcey
Revelstoke Mountaineer: Where do you volunteer?
I am the golf coach for the Revelstoke Secondary School golf team, and I am also the men’s club captain at the Revelstoke Golf Club.
RM: What are your volunteer duties?
For the golf team, I provide safe transportation to their golf tournaments (with help from Deb Marsh) and try to point them in the best direction possible before they tee off. I am responsible for high fives and encouraging words after the round. 😉
I try to help them with course management as well all aspects of their golf game.
As for the club captain, I organize the weekly men’s day competition as well as many other club events throughout the season.
Why do you volunteer for your organization?
I love the game of golf and I am very passionate about it, I feel that growing the game of golf begins with the junior golfers and the high school golf team. I am very proud of my team, they all feel the same way I do about the sport and I know they will all play for the rest of their lives.
For you, what’s rewarding about volunteering?
What I find rewarding is the look a kids’ face when they hit that perfect shot and they understand how they did it — it’s so very hard to do.
And nothing is better than the handshake from a fellow member thanking you and saying how much fun they just had playing in the tournament today, and that we should do that again soon!
