According to the latest statistics released by BCStats, the estimated population of Revelstoke remained virtually unchanged last year.
The provincial statistics agency said the population in the City of Revelstoke was 7,192 in 2015, down just 10 people from 7,202 in 2014. This rounded out to a 0.1% drop.
The number measures residents in the City of Revelstoke, excluding residents of the surrounding Columbia–Shuswap Regional District Area B, which includes properties south of the Revelstoke Airport and on the Begbie Bench.
According to BCStats, Revelstoke’s population has hovered around 7,200 since 2005. Prior to that, BCStats numbers indicated the community was losing approximately 100 people per year from 2001 to 2005. The population estimate was 7,623 in 2001, falling to 7,238 in 2005. From 2005 onward, the average has been just below 7,200, with the exception of 2012, when BCStats reported an estimated low of 7,077.
Comparing changes between 2014 and 2015 in the Columbia-Shuswap, the population estimate increased slightly by 0.1% from 51,409 to 51,451. Golden and Sicamous increased by less than 1%, while Salmon Arm decreased by 2.3%. All of the unincorporated areas in the regional district combined increased by 2.1%, BCStats estimates.
The last federal census was in 2011, and the next one will happen in 2016.
